Thanks for supporting our Durango Search Engine project! As a member you get a page that you can fill with information about your business or organization.
The following tips for creating an effective page will give you the best possible results.
First, you will want to put a title that clearly lets people know who you are, using your official name. This becomes part of your URL (InDurango.com/your-name), and is what shows in search results, so make it specific to your public name.
It also is the headline of your page.
For example: Choosing Camrud Advertising would make your url indurango.com/camrud-advertising/ which you can use to direct people to your page.
You will have one main graphic that will show in the search results on the site. Then, up to two additional ones that shown on your page.
The image will show up in any lists (Category or Tags) in which your business appears, and will be the main image on your page.
The images for your business should be at least 72ppi (pixels per inch) to appear crisp online. Colorful is good. You may choose to use your logo, a photo of your business, staff or a representative photo as your primary photo. It’s up to you.
We recommend a size of at least 1200 pixels wide, however the minimum is 600 pixels by 600 pixels. Please don’t send files over 5000 pixels on the longest dimension.
Image format should be one jpeg, png, or pdf. We can also work with .eps or .ai files.
“Content” is marketing-speak for the information on your webpage.
We recommend a friendly worded description answering the old journalistic questions of who, what, where, when, and why. This wording should be slightly different than your main web page wording.
You don’t have to answer all of those questions, but answering as many as possible will give searchers a good sense of your business.
You are allowed up to 1000 words – all will be included for search results, so we encourage you to use at least 300 words in your description. Users like succinct info online, so keep the description on point! Bullet point lists are allowed.
A testimonial from a customer is a great way to end your description. Choose a relatively short one, or two.
All text on your page counts towards the 1000 words.
You should definitely put your phone number on the your page.
We discourage email addresses because spammers hunt the internet looking for emails to sell to list-aggregators.
The link to your website will allow people to navigate to your online contact form.
Address and Map Link
Write out your street or mailing address. Street addresses can be linked to Google maps to make if easier for people to find you. It is particularly useful for mobile users.
If you don’t want your address or a map shown for any reason, simply leave it blank on your listing submittal.
If you are using our service in addition to your own website, you can link back to your own website.
Backlinks from sites such as this help with your site’s ranking on search engines!
You are not required to have any links.
If you have a website, you can get a discount on your renewal by linking to InDurango.com from your site.
What makes this site more useful than just a directory of local businesses is that it is oriented towards helping people find individual products and services, rather than making the user guess what is offered by a business from a category name.
Each member page ends with a category link, but also a list of up to 50 Keyword Tags!
These Tags are submitted by you, and are linked to every other business or organization that has the same Tag (like hashtags on social media sites).
So if a user is on another member’s page, and they may click a Tag, and your page will show in a list with all businesses that offer that item.
You will want to be as inclusive as possible when selecting keyword Tags.
For example, a restaurant will want to cover all bases: type of cuisine, such as “Mexican food”; type of service, such as “sit down restaurant”; individual fare, such as “burritos”; special needs such as “gluten free”; etc.
And since the user will be able to read through the Tag list, they don’t have to think of what words to search. This is an opportunity for you to add highly unique items, or get creative to be the only place in town that offers something!
The more unique your list the fewer competitors.
But be sure to include broad things too, because you don’t know if the searcher will start their search very broad or very refined.
If in doubt, include multiples. For example a steak house may want to put both steaks, and rib eye steaks.
Note: We reserve the right to combine Tags that are close to ones existing on the site into one, such as hamburger and hamburgers.
